Frequently Asked Questions
What is a nutraceutical?
The term nutraceutical was coined in the 1990’s by Dr. Stephen DeFelice. He defined nutraceutical as: “Any substance that is a food or a part of a food and provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease.” In more common terms, nutraceuticals are known as functional foods.
Do you offer vegetarian formulas?
Yes, Santa Cruz Nutritionals offers a variety of formulations, and some of them qualify as vegetarian. Contact us for more information.
What are the benefits of a confectionary delivery system?
Some consumers, both children and adults, have difficulty swallowing pills or keeping to a daily pill regimen. The confectionary matrix offers a tasty alternative to deliver your daily dietary supplement needs.
Are your products allergen free?
The FDA defines the ‘Big 8 allergens’ as peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, soy, wheat, fish and shell fish. Our plant is free of proteins derived from the eight major allergenic foods: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or soybeans. 90% of all food allergies are resulted from these eight allergen proteins. FDA requires labeling for presence of these 8 allergens. We do not process, package or store any product or ingredients that contain these allergen proteins, so all of Santa Cruz Nutritionals’ products are free of the ‘Big 8 allergens.'
What is gluten and are your products gluten free?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Since Santa Cruz Nutritionals does not use wheat, rye or barley, our products are free of gluten.
Can you provide a full catalog/brochure of available products?
For the most part, Santa Cruz Nutritionals is a contract manufacturer of nutraceutical and functional food products. All products are made-to-order, and are custom-made to our customer’s specifications; we do not have a catalog/brochure. Ninety-five percent of the products we make are not candy, but supplements (i.e. multi vitamin gummies, calcium chews, energy gummies).
